What's on at Plymouth Albion in May 2021

The weeks really are just flying by at Plymouth Albion, and the events are rolling in thick and fast, so, this week I will be talking a little bit about what we have booked in for this month. So, get those pencils sharpened, get your diaries out and get these dates written down!

Last weekend we hosted ‘Plymouth’s Biggest Beer Garden’ on the first team pitch. It is safe to say it was a success albeit a couple of rain showers here and there, but then again, what would a trip to Brickfields be without rain?!

It was great to see so many new faces at the club, as well as our loyal supporters, who turn up to every event we host in support – we are so thankful for them!

Drink’s supplier, LWC, brought the cavalry too. They kindly provided support for the service and the bar, so thank you Kirsty and the team, it was a great day!

Anyway, back to dates to pop in your diary…

14th May 2021 (to be confirmed); After the success of the first one, we were hoping to have another ‘Plymouth’s Biggest Beer Garden’ a week today as the weather looks a little better that today. Tickets will be available online on eventbrite as well as a few on the gate and they will be priced £30 per table of 6, and this will include your first drink free – bargain!

21st May 2021; As you may have seen, we are delighted to be hosting the event; ‘An Evening with Warren Gatland’. The Lions tour coach will be visiting Brickfields on 21st May 2021 prior to leaving for South Africa and will be giving an insight into the preparation and tactics for his chosen squad.

For obvious reasons, this is proving to be a sought-after event, and we have had a few enquiries RE the purchase of tables for the event. However, this event is organised by Concierge UK and you will only be able to buy tickets online from them on www.tickettailor.com and search for the event.

The catering for this event is being provided by the fabulous Ben Palmer and the Team from The Greedy Goose.

Ben is renowned in the South West for his delicious food and as well as providing outside catering, runs two restaurants, Platos in Plymouth and The Sardine Factory in Looe. We are delighted that Ben has made some time to help us on the catering front for events as well as hospitality, thank you Ben!

30th May 2021; Lazy Sunday Market, hosted by Miss Ivy Events. We managed to host one of these markets on the top pitch, back in September 2020 and it was a gloriously sunny day. These types of events are a great opportunity to support local businesses and socialise with Friends and Families in (hopefully) some better weather! The ‘horsebox bar’ will be back out again as well as delicious food stalls, so bring a picnic blanket and come on down.

All of these events are proving that we are putting Albion back on the Plymouth map and making it the place to come and visit, a community hub where visitors feel safe and enjoy themselves.

We do also take private function bookings, so please do get in contact if you would like to book a function at Albion as we have quite a few free dates now.

There hasn’t been a lot to report on when it comes to the board as everyone is busy preparing for the up-and-coming season. Max (Venables) and Damien (Welch) have been working hard securing the best squad possible for the 2021/22 season and we have now received our fixtures, which will be released very soon…Rugby is coming back!!

Although sworn to secrecy about the fixtures, I can let you know that the first match of the season after over a year of no rugby, will be HOME on the 4th September 2021 and we will be playing London’s Rosslyn Park. I cannot wait!

Lastly don’t forget our new café is open every day from 8am until 2pm serving teas and coffees (from our posh new coffee machine) and an array of snacks from the kitchen.

As previously mentioned, we are now hosting a vaccine centre in our SW Comms suite and are in need of help from volunteers to help direct traffic, The shifts are 8am-12pm, 12pm-4pm and 4pm-8pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. If you would like to volunteer please do get in touch with Mark ([email protected]), any help is appreciated!!

In this column I will be talking of my experiences at Albion and would love to hear some questions you may have on what goes on behind the scenes and I’d love to hear some feedback. Email me on [email protected]. Until then stay Safe! Ellie.
